What IsReiki?
Reiki is a Japanese holistic healing technique that is administered using light touch or hands placed close to the body. Healing energy then flows from the practitioner’s hands to the recipient. It is a safe and effective treatment for stress reduction and deep relaxation, and provides many other benefits. It can be used as a compliment to traditional western medicine.
Reiki treats the whole of your being. It will make you feel deeply relaxed, with feelings of peace, security, and well-being. Many of the physical and emotional discomforts we deal with develop from chronic stress and blocked energy in our field and body. When we carry these blocks and stress long term, energy doesn’t flow smoothly and we develop ailments. Reiki’s energy works with these blocks, allowing the energy to flow again and for you to begin to heal. When you experience this amazing healing modality, you will wonder why you didn’t try it sooner!
Reiki is spiritually guided, but it is not a religion nor is it attached to any religion. It will work no matter what your beliefs are.

Promotes stress reduction and decreases feelings of anxiety and depression. This lasts even after the session is over, leaving you feeling more centered and better able to cope with every day stressors.
Assists with healing after injuries and surgery. In some cases it is recommended to have a session before a surgery to promote positive feelings, relaxation, and healing.

Answers to Your Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to do to prepare for a session?Schedule your appointment for a time you won’t feel rushed. Please do not drink any alcohol or extra caffeine before or after your session. You may take your prescribed medications like you normally do. Wear comfortable clothing with no metal belts. Please remove your smart watch. It is good to have an intention for your session. Maybe it is to relax and relieve tension that has built up, decrease physical pain in the body, recover from an injury or stressful event, or to release what no longer serves you. These are just a few examples. You may just be curious to see what Reiki is all about! I cannot guarantee results, but setting an intention will be helpful to you and Reiki will always work for your highest and greatest good.

What is a Reiki session like?Sessions last about an hour. During the session, you will be lying on a massage table, listening to relaxing music. I also have aromatherapy if you desire. I will start at your head and provide Reiki energy to all of your energy centers, also known as chakras, helping to clear blockages. If you have any areas of discomfort, I will spend time in those areas as well. Reiki will flow throughout your body no matter where my hands are. It knows where to flow to provide you the most benefit. I do light touch and hands placed close to the body but if you do not wish to be touched, I can do the entire session that way as well. Every person is different in how they experience Reiki. Some common feelings include tingling, and warmth or cold where my hands are. Many feel that it is similar to a peaceful meditation. You may even fall asleep, waking to find yourself feeling calm and with physical and emotional pain alleviated.

What should I expect after my session?After your session, you will be feeling very relaxed, maybe even the most relaxed you’ve ever felt in your life! Take the time to enjoy it. You can extend this feeling by having downtime after your session. Some suggestions would be enjoying a nice walk and spending some time in nature. Have quiet time to reflect on your session. Take a nap if you feel like it. If you have been going through a stressful time, now that your body and mind are truly relaxed this may be exactly what you need. Some feel very energized afterwards. A lot of healing on all levels of your being have taken place and continue to take place after the session ends. You have also released from your energetic field things that no longer serve you. So listen to your body, it will tell you what it needs. Refrain from drinking extra caffeine, and do not drink alcohol the day of your session. Have a light healthy meal. And drink extra water. Water will flush out the toxins you’ve released and continue to release.

How often do I need a session for the most benefit?Just like with any therapy, you will want to have more than one session to gain full benefit. Everyone is different in what they need. Three sessions as close together as possible is very beneficial for a lot of people; more depending on your needs and how you feel after those initial three sessions. After that, it is good to have a session as you feel you need it. I will suggest some things that will help you feel more relaxed and centered in between sessions.

I have been a Registered Nurse for 25+ years, mostly in the hospital setting. I was satisfied for a long time helping people in this role. However, for a few years prior to being introduced to Reiki I had this feeling like there was something else I was meant to do. One day a co-worker of mine mentioned Reiki to me and told me of the benefits she had experienced so I decided to go for a session. I was going through a stressful time in my life, so I wanted to see if it would help.

I was blown away by the effects just one session had on me. I had never been so relaxed in my life! I didn't even know I could feel this way. I was in a deep meditative state and felt a pleasant tingling and heat where the practitioner's hands were, even though she wasn't touching me. I felt positive, uplifting emotions with a brief period of grief and anger at one point as it rose up and was released from my body and energetic field. I felt so clean and light after the session was complete!

For me, it was exactly what I needed and a catalyst for change. After the session, I noticed that I was more in touch with my emotions and what my body needed. The anxiety I felt before was diminished. I was seeking out things that were good and healing for me and avoiding things that didn't align with this. I also found that I was more present in the moment and with others. It set me on a path that I will forever be grateful for. I had another session a few weeks later.

Not too long after that second session, I decided I wanted to help others the way I had been helped and to continue with my own healing. I signed up for the first series of classes at the NC Reiki Training Center in Asheville, where I went on to complete my Master's Training. I am also a member of the International Association for Reiki Professionals.

I have enjoyed my many years as an RN, and now I have been called to a different way of helping others. Reiki gives me so much happiness when I see the positive benefits it has on the people I work with. I am so grateful that this healing art has come into my life and I love to share it with others!
